Yaphank shooting range dispute may go to state
BY PATRICK WHITTLE May 19, 2008.

Local activists fighting a two-year battle against a Yaphank shooting range have persuaded Brookhaven Town officials to try to use state laws to close the facility, which both groups contend is a noise disturbance and a threat to water quality.

Brookhaven Supervisor Brian X. Foley has agreed to ask the state Pine Barrens Commission for a ruling on whether Suffolk Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays constitutes development in an environmentally sensitive area, and therefore must be closed.

Read all about it now!

Is this scenario a concern for our community?
According to public records and witnessed by community members in attendance:

When the Pine Barrens Commission met in May/June 2006, the meetings were full of supporters and opponents regarding the Trap & Skeet Range even though the range...was NOT on the agenda...for the meetings. So...... When the Trap & Skeet Range.....WAS on the agenda....of the Pine Barrens Commission in July 2006, when they could have effectively kept the range closed,... ONLY the OPPONENTS... of the range were there to speak.

Why not contact the commission directly and call/write our representatives to the commission, Supervisor Foley, Councilwoman Kepert and ask them what they think about this?
